Is Squarespace Good for SEO in 2025?

As a Squarespace SEO expert for nearly a decade, I’ve heard the same question over and over again. Since the SEO world is pretty much obsessed with WordPress, Squarespace users—especially the DIY crowd—are often left wondering, "Did I pick the wrong platform? Is my website ever going to show up when people search for my services?"

So, is Squarespace good for SEO in 2025? The short answer? Yes, absolutely!

But here’s the long answer: SEO is a pretty broad top. And your visibility online? It’s less about the platform you use and more about what you do with your website.

Squarespace SEO Fact #1: Squarespace makes some big claims about SEO.

If you’ve checked out their documentation, you’ve probably seen something like this:

“Squarespace has the technical side covered for you — no need for plugins or messing with the code.”

And yeah, technically, that’s true. You don’t need plugins or anything to follow best practices. But here’s the catch: people tend to think that means Squarespace is automatically good for SEO, and they don’t need to do anything else.

That’s a huge misconception. Sorry to break it to you, but you still need to optimize for technical SEO, write solid metas (which I teach in my Magnetic Metas course, btw), and have a smart content strategy. And, (spoiler alert), none of that just happens behind the scenes. It takes work.

Squarespace SEO Fact #2: You don’t need a plugin to optimize your Squarespace site.

Listen, if someone tries to sell you a Squarespace SEO plugin, run. While WordPress websites rely on plugins, you don’t need that extra layer of complexity in Squarespace. In fact, this is one of the things I love about Squarespace—it keeps the learning curve way friendlier. Instead of trying to figure out how to use an app in addition to your site, you just focus on understanding SEO fundamentals. So simple!

I mean, I’ve worked with plenty of WordPress clients who hate their SEO plugins. They’re confusing, they need constant updates, and they just add unnecessary complexity. And, full disclosure—I’ve totally ticked off the WordPress community by saying SEO should be built into the platform like it is in Squarespace. But hey, it’s true.

Squarespace SEO Fact #3: SEO + Content STILL reigns supreme.

When it comes to growing your business, SEO paired with content is everything when it comes to SEO. This is where Squarespace really shines. Adding content to your site is a breeze. And I tell my clients all the time: regularly-updated, targeted content is the key to getting noticed by the right audience.

So, who’s the right audience? Well, it’s people who actually have a good chance of becoming your customers.

And guess what? This whole content-driven SEO strategy? Doesn’t matter what platform you use—Squarespace, WordPress, or even a basic HTML page. It works.

Squarespace SEO Fact #4: A lot of SEO pros don’t know the system.

Okay, so here’s the deal: Squarespace only has about 3% of the overall website market. That’s small, but it still has millions of users. The thing is, SEO agencies don’t prioritize Squarespace because they don’t think it’s worth the time or investment. They’re more focused on platforms with bigger profit potential, like WordPress.

But that’s exactly why you need to be picky about who you work with. Ignore the cold pitches you get and find an SEO consultant who knows Squarespace inside and out. Don’t settle for someone who only understands Google.

So, to answer the question from the start: is Squarespace good for SEO?

Well, it depends. If you just build a site and hope for the best, then Squarespace (or any website platform) probably won’t do wonders for you. But, if you put in the effort, research your keywords, and stick to a solid content strategy? Then, yes—Squarespace is definitely a great option!
